Kim and AJ chose to have a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico at the El Dorado Royale Resort. They decided to have their wedding at El Dorado Royale Resort after vacationing there and falling in love with it. After visiting, they vowed to come back with their closest friends and family, which they did 4 years later for their wedding and honeymoon.
Kim and AJ’s priority for their wedding was to avoid the archetypal “beachy destination resort” wedding look. They knew that they didn’t want to have their ceremony on the beach with views of the ocean, which is what the resort typically offered. After a few conversations with the resort about ceremony options, they were told about Xolumado Village, a private villa and village connected to the resort. The village was an idea and vision borne from the famous Mexican singer, Juan Gabriel. After partnering with El Dorado Royale and the neighboring Generations resort, he turned this land into a paradise where Juan recorded music, filmed music videos, and invited other celebrities and guests to stay.
After Juan’s passing, this mosaic-filled paradise was turned into a relaxing resort that’s a part of El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Royale Casitas, & Generations Resorts. Kim and AJ were actually the first couple to use the village for their wedding ceremony. Instead of the beach, they were surrounded by lush tropical plants, statues, mosaics, and even a beer burro! Then, the reception was held under the stars on the beach with string lights above the dance floor and tables, guests were greeted by a coconut drink station, sombreros, and a churro cake. Talk about the ultimate Cancun wedding.
